A Dead Battery Left Me Stranded

Warm weather is the time for car battery problems. The summer’s extreme heat can destroy a car's battery. I found that out yesterday. I gathered my things and was going to head to Cumming to see my doctor (that I had been putting off forever) and upon entering my car and turning the key and nothing happened.

Yes there I am sitting in my car feeling frustrated that I was not going anywhere. I write about different thoughts and ideas on vehicle maintenance and there I was a victim of my not doing what I suggest.

My battery was exactly 3 years old and I know that when a battery is 3 years old it’s usually a good time to have it replaced. Oh me oh my, I felt like a real dummy especially since I had noticed some corrosion around the terminals just last week.

Please note that summertime is the battery killer not wintertime so if your battery is in the 3 year old range I highly suggest that you replace it sometime in the near future. (You’ve been warned so don’t be a dummy like me)

Going to the Dealer for Repairs? Get a Second Opinion

A few weeks ago a customer came into our other shop Atlanta Hybrid Repair feeling a bit frantic about what the dealer had estimated for repairing her vehicle. We agreed to inspect the vehicle and give an estimate of our own.

The original estimate for the dealer repair was approximately $700 dollars for a new wiring harness. The customer saved her money for a few weeks and went back in for the repair and they then came back with an estimate of  $4,157.85 for the wiring harness and now added a wheel bearing and speed sensor.

We brought the vehicle into our shop and our technician diagnosed the problem as being ONLY the wheel bearing and speed sensor and NOT needing the wiring harness.

WOW, thankfully this customer got a second opinion and we able to repair the vehicle for $475.70 saving the customer $3,702.12.

Next time any of your friends are going to the dealer please suggest to them they may want to get a second opinion on any major repair.

Don’t forget Atlanta Hybrid Repair also works on Toyota and Lexus vehicles. 770-492-7437
